Congratulations to NYC high school debater Starr Arroyo for her winning grant from Youth Service America to support her debate outreach. Starr directed and coached one of the nation’s first Elementary School Debate Camps, Girls Debate League, outreach to new debate schools, and was also selected to deliver a speech at the White House. She has been debating since 7th grade and by 9th grade she stopped debating and devoted her energy and passions to starting new debate programs at new schools and working with elementary and middle school debaters. Congratulations and thank you Starr for your incredible work to make sure that every student and school has access to debate opportunities!
More about the Youth Service America Youth Award!…
ABC, in partnership with Youth Service America, is calling on young change-makers to apply for an ABC Summer of Service Award. Winners receive a $1,000 award to help make a lasting, positive change in the world.
Who are we looking for? Young people located in and around ABC-affiliate communities who are creating lasting, positive change through volunteer and community service projects. We’re especially interested in ongoing, youth-led projects that highlight the creativity and commitment of young people working to meet the needs of others. If you are a young person already involved in volunteering, we want to hear your story of service!
The goal? Torecognize young community change-makers, and help them on their mission to help others.
Youth ages 5-18 located in and around ABC-affiliate communities are eligible to submit their good work and be considered for an ABC Summer of Service Award. Please note:
Legally, if you are younger than 13, you must have a parent or guardian prepare and submit the application with you.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
Applicants must have already implemented a service project in their community. The
ABC Summer of Service Award is recognizing youth that have already served their community.
All applicants are required to have a sponsoring organization or school. The award check will be sent to the sponsoring organization or school. The sponsoring organization or school will accept the award funds for the applicant and work with them to utilize the funds. YSA cannot send award funds to an individual.
The ABC Summer of Service Awards, in collaboration with Disney Friends for Change, is an initiative that inspires kids and their families to make a lasting, positive change by helping people, communities, and the planet.
